It’s also not the first time that public gatherings, schools and certain businesses have been shut down to attempt to prevent sickness or death from a pandemic flu- many cities took those actions during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, which lasted 3 years, infected approximately one quarter of the world’s population and killed an estimated 40-50 million worldwide. Sobering statistics, indeed.
